Vice President and Director of Athletics
John D’Argenio has led Siena’s athletic department since 1992 and steadily grown its national reputation to the point where it’s one of four initiatives of the College’s five-year strategic plan and also a part of the comprehensive campaign.
D’Argenio loves working at Siena College because, as he says, “it’s the best of both worlds. It’s not just about how great of an athlete you can make them, it’s how good of an athlete, how good of a student, how good of a person you can make them.”
D’Argenio is excited about the Alumni Recreation Center renovation that will take place in the next couple of years. It will feature updates to the ARC, the addition of a basketball practice gym, an enhanced academic support center and more space for team rooms, locker rooms, sports medicine and strength and conditioning.
“When you’re trying to build a consistently winning mid-major program, you certainly need the leadership, coaches and student athletes, but you also need a home for them,” D’Argenio said.
The Athletics initiative of the comprehensive campaign, which also includes its annual giving program Saints Alive!, will support more than 300 student athletes, who, according to D’Argenio are “some of the best and brightest students we have at Siena.” It will also continue to help the College as a whole.
